EXCEPT Florida and New York who are of the Age of Majority as defined by their state of residence, subject to all applicable federal, state, and local laws and regulations. Void where prohibited. Prizes will not be awarded to or on behalf of any person found ineligible at the time of entry.

    (top)
  4. Sweepstakes Components:

    1. The Treasure Field
      • The Treasure Field is a rectangular grid of pixels that are all uniquely identifiable by their x and y-coordinates as measured in pixels from the top-left pixel.
      • The format used for specifying pixels in this sweepstakes is "(x, y)" where "x" and "y" are the x and y-coordinates of the pixel on the treasure field respectively. Thus, the top-left pixel on the treasure field for a sweepstakes is (0, 0), and the bottom-right one is (w-1, h-1), where "w" equals the width and "h" equals the height of the treasure field in pixels.
      • The base dimensions for a treasure field will be 100x100 pixels (10,000 total pixels), but may be increased at our discretion for future sweepstakes as we see fit. To find the dimensions of the current sweepstakes, visit http://www.GreatPixelHunt.com.
      • The Treasure Field dimensions will remain constant for the full duration of a sweepstakes once it has started.
    2. The Great Pixel
      • The Great Pixel is a single pixel on the treasure field that is the winning pixel for the sweepstakes.
      • The Great Pixel will be randomly selected for each sweepstakes from the available pixels on the treasure field for the sweepstakes it applies to. For example, if the treasure field goes from (0, 0) to (99, 99) inclusive for the current sweepstakes, the Great Pixel will be one of the million pixels within that range, e.g. (45, 26), (0, 0), and (99, 99) are all possibilities.
      • Once selected, The Great Pixel will remain constant throughout the duration of the sweepstakes unless the pixel is irretrievable due to data loss or other unforeseen causes, in which case a new Great Pixel will be generated.
    3. The Jackpot
      • The amount before taxes and fees that you (or the charity you choose if playing in charity mode) will receive if you win the sweepstakes (subject to verification).
    4. Click
      • Each online completed entry constitutes a click. A click consists of a user clicking on a sponsored advertisement in the treasure field at a certain pixel during an active contest, viewing/interacting with the loaded content for 15 seconds, and then receiving notification whether the pixel clicked was the Great Pixel or not. All steps must be completed in order for the click to be considered complete. Note: Clicks cannot be completed when the current sweepstakes is on hold or has not started yet.

    (top)
  5. Sweepstakes Duration:

    • Start: Each sweepstakes will begin when both the previous sweepstakes has ended (if applicable) AND when advertisers have purchased at least as many clicks as there are pixels on the treasure field. For example, if the treasure field has 10,000 pixels, the contest will begin when advertisers have 10,000 remaining clicks.
    • On-hold: If a winner is not found before the remaining clicks run out, the current sweepstakes will be put on hold until there are again as many clicks as there are pixels on the treasure field. This process will repeat until the sweepstakes ends.
    • End: The sweepstakes ends when someone picks the Great Pixel with a valid entry.
    • Example: Assume there were 10,000 paid remaining clicks at the start of a sweepstakes, no ads are purchased during the sweepstakes, and a winner is not found in 10,000 user clicks. The sweepstakes is then put on hold because there are no clicks left. Next, let's say advertisers purchase 12,000 clicks, which is more than the 10,000 needed to take it off on-hold, so the sweepstakes becomes active again. Then, the first online entrant clicks the Great Pixel on their first try, ending that sweepstakes. Assuming the size of the next sweepstake's treasure field is 10,000 pixels, it will start immediately since the starting requirement of at least 10,000 remaining advertiser clicks is already met.
    • Current sweepstakes info: To find out if a sweepstakes is active or how many more paid incomplete clicks are needed before the next sweepstakes starts or the current sweepstakes is activated again, please visit http://www.GreatPixelHunt.com.

  6. Online Registration:

In order to play this sweepstakes online, you must register for an online account and provide enough accurate information about yourself to uniquely identify yourself from any other user in our system. ANY INFORMATION THAT YOU PROVIDE MUST BE EXACTLY CORRECT, OR YOUR ENTRY WILL BE CONSIDERED VOID!

When registering, you must provide enough information to uniquely distinguish yourself from all other users. This information includes your Family (last) name, given (first) name, birth date, and possibly your social security number (SSN). If the information you provide does not uniquely identify yourself from all other users in our system, you may be prompted to enter additional information. Also, if another user registers with identical information to your existing account, but specifies additional information, you may be prompted for additional information to uniquely distinguish you from that user the next time you access your account.

Any information that you provide during the online registration will not be sold or distributed to advertisers or third parties without your consent.

    (top)
  7. Methods of Entry:

There are three (3) ways you may enter this sweepstakes. Each method involves selecting a pixel from the treasure field. If the pixel you selected is the Great Pixel, then you win the jackpot, either for charity if you were playing in "Charity" mode, or for yourself if you were playing in one of the two (2) "Cash" modes (subject to verification of eligibility and compliance with the terms of these rules).

All entries must be completed manually. For online entries, this means that all entries must be completed manually through the normal process on the sweepstakes website. Thus, any online entries made using robots, bots, programs, scripts, macros, or any other automated tools for any part of the entry process are void. For mail-in entries, this means that all entries must be completely hand-written, and any entries that are mechanically reproduced, copied, or generated in part or in whole using these or other automated means are void.

Online Play Notes: We do not guarantee that all types of internet devices and/or browsers will be supported for each sweepstakes. However, we will do our best to notify you when you try to access our site with a known unsupported device or browser. Also, though we will do our best to have http://www.GreatPixelHunt.com online at all times during each sweepstakes period, we make no guarantees to that effect, and we furthermore reserve the right to take it offline for server maintenance and fixes at any time as needed with or without warning. Finally, in regards to the online entry process: up to the point where your entry is checked to see if it is a winner, we reserve the right to revoke your entry for any reason, including but not limited to: another user winning the Jackpot, server downtime, network failure, suspicious entries, rules violations, limited click availability (for the ad you clicked or in general), data loss, etc.

    Modes Of Play:
    1. Online for charity:
      • Charity-Mode Notes:
        1. IF YOU CHOOSE TO PLAY IN CHARITY MODE, YOU WILL UNDER NO CIRCUMSTANCES BE ABLE TO CLAIM ANY PORTION OF THE WINNINGS FOR YOURSELF. INSTEAD, THE JACKPOT WILL BE DONATED TO AN APPROVED CHARITY OF YOUR CHOICE.
      • How to enter:
        1. Navigate to http://www.GreatPixelHunt.com during an active contest.
        2. Click the "Play For Charity" button.
        3. Enter your zip code, select a charity to play on behalf of, and click "Play For Charity".
        4. Click somewhere on the treasure field to select a pixel that may be the Great Pixel.
        5. A 15 second countdown will begin after our servers have validated your entry and the advertiser's site has finished loading.
        6. Once the countdown reaches zero, we will automatically check your entry and notify you if you clicked the Great Pixel or not. If you leave our website, choose to close the ad before this time, lose internet connectivity, there is an error processing the request, or the request is delayed for more than 5 minutes, that entry will be considered void.
        7. If you clicked the Great Pixel, you will then be able to select from an approved list of charities to receive the jackpot, optionally filling out a name you would like the donation to be made on behalf of. Please see the Prize Redemption section for further details on claiming your prize.
    2. Online for cash:
      • How to enter:
        1. Navigate to http://www.GreatPixelHunt.com during an active contest.
        2. If you don't have a user account then create a new user account with your correct user information.
        3. Login with your sole user account.
        7. If the pixel you clicked was the Great Pixel, you will be notified that you are a tentative winner and must follow the Prize Redemption process to claim your prize (subject to verification that your entry and eligibility are in accordance with these rules).
    3. By mail for cash:
      • How to enter:
        1. Send a legibly hand-written, self-addressed, stamped envelope ("SASE") with sufficient postage and an eligible return address (no PO boxes allowed), including your given (first) and family (last) name, age, street address, city, state, and zip code to:

The Great Pixel Hunt - Entry
            PO Box 3013
            Duluth, MN 55803

Also include your online account Username if you have one (or the words "NO ACCOUNT" if you don't) and a valid pixel selection for your entry in the proper format (e.g. "(0,999)") (limit one (1) pixel selection per SASE). Any mechanically reproduced, copied, illegible, incomplete, or inaccurate entries, or entries by any means which subvert the entry process are void.
        2. Because the Treasure Grid may vary in size from sweepstakes to sweepstakes, any pixel provided that was valid for a previous sweepstakes but invalid for the current sweepstakes will be adjusted. This will be done by dividing the pixel submitted by the current sweepstakes dimensions and taking the remainder. For example, if the pixel submitted was (2434, 1000) and the current treasure field size is 1000x1000, the pixel for that entry will be considered (434, 0). Note: This only applies if the pixel was valid for a previous sweepstakes.
        3. If your mail-entry is in accordance with these rules, you will be notified of whether you won or not using the SASE you provided. If you won, you must follow the prize redemption process to collect your winnings.
        4. The Great Pixel Hunt is not responsible for postal "time in transit" delays or lost/returned mail.
        5. Requests that do not comply with all mailing requirements will not be honored, acknowledged or returned and persons submitting such requests will forfeit any corresponding postage and unused envelopes.

    (top)
  8. Online Mode Activation:

During an active contest, the online mode of play will only be available to "Active" zip codes. A zip code will become active when it has a minimum of 10 approved sponsored advertisements with remaining clicks that apply to that zip code (this includes national ads, state ads, county ads, and city ads that apply to that zip code). After a zip code has been activated, it will remain active until the contest ends or there are no more sponsored advertisements for that zip code, whichever happens first. If a zip code is deactivated during an active contest because there are no more clicks for that zip code, it must again be reactivated with a minimum of 10 sponsored advertisements that apply to it.

Note: Eligible users in deactivate zip codes may still enter the sweepstakes by mail.

    (top)
  9. Entry Notes and Limits:

SWEEPSTAKES ONLINE ENTRY METHODS MAY BE LIMITED OR UNAVAILABLE IN SOME AREAS DUE TO THE LIMITED AVAILABILITY OF SPONSORED ADVERTISEMENTS FOR EACH AREA. IF YOU LIVE IN ONE OF THESE AREAS, YOU MAY STILL SUBMIT YOUR MAXIMUM 120 TOTAL ENTRIES PER DAY USING THE MAIL-IN ENTRY METHOD. For example, if you live in Duluth, MN and there are 24 sponsored advertisements applicable to users in that location, you may enter online for cash 24 times, and then optionally submit 96 mail-in entries if you wish to enter your daily maximum of 120 entries.

    1. Online for charity:
      • There is no daily limit on charity entries (though entries may be limited in some areas as previously mentioned).
      • An entry is created after you have clicked on the treasure field in charity mode and your click has been validated by our servers.
      • Entries become mature 15 seconds after they are created.
      • You may not submit another entry until your previous entry has matured (NO SIMULTANEOUS ENTRIES).
    2. Online for cash:
      • The maximum number of cash entries per person per day (including mail-in entries) is 120 (though online entries may be limited in some areas as previously mentioned).
      • An entry is created after you have clicked on the treasure field in cash mode and your click has been validated by our servers.
      • Entries become mature 15 seconds after they are created.
      • You may not submit another entry until your previous entry has matured (NO SIMULTANEOUS ENTRIES).
    3. By mail for cash:
      • The maximum number of entries per person per day (including online-for-cash entries) is 120.
      • Entries will be processed according to these rules in the order in which they were received.
      • Entries will be processed only when there is an active sweepstakes that is not on hold.
      • Entries will be treated as entries for the current active sweepstakes at the time they are processed, regardless of the sweepstakes that was active when they were mailed or postmarked.
      • If we are unable for any reason to process all outstanding mail entries in a day, all unprocessed entries will be rolled over for processing according to these rules the following day.

    (top)
  10. Determination Of Winner:

The tentative winner for each sweepstakes is the first valid entry that is confirmed by our servers to have selected the Great Pixel for the current sweepstakes (subject to verification of entry, eligibility, and conformance to these rules).

    (top)
  11. Prize Redemption:

For online charity mode, winners will be redirected to a charity selection page where they can select from an approved list of charities that they would like their winnings to go to. They will also be able to fill out who the contribution should be made on behalf of. From the time of their entry they will have 24 hours to fill out this form. If the form is not completed within this amount of time, the full value of the Jackpot will be forfeited and will be redistributed into the current and future contest jackpots. If the form is filled out in the proper time and the entry is found to be valid according to these rules, the final value for the Jackpot will be donated to the selected charity within 30 days.

For online cash mode only, winners will be redirected to a form where they must fill out a form with their eligible physical address (No PO boxes allowed) and publicity release. As with charity mode, from the time of their entry winners will have 24 hours to fill out this form or the full value of the jackpot will be forfeited and will be redistributed into the current and future contest jackpots.

For both modes of cash play, the redemption process once we have the winners address is the same. First, we will manually verify that the entry is valid and in full compliance with these rules. Next, we will verify the final value of the jackpot. After this, we will contact the tentative winner using their provided address, sending them an Affidavit of Eligibility, Publicity Release, and Release of Liability (winners forms). The tentative winner must fully and accurately complete, sign, and return the notarized winners forms within 30 days from when we contact them or they will forfeit their prize.

Once we receive the notarized winners forms and they are verified as correct and in full compliance with these rules, the final jackpot value will be sent to the winner within 30 days. All federal, state, local, & other taxes are the responsibility of the winner. We will issue Form 1099-MISC to a Prize winner as required by law.

For a list of previous winners, please visit http://www.GreatPixelHunt.com and click on the "Winners" tab.

    (top)
  12. Jackpot Value:

Because the jackpot is based on a progressive jackpot model and income from advertisement clicks during the sweepstakes, a minimum prize value is not guaranteed. The current estimated jackpot value before taxes can be found at www.greatPixelHunt.com. We will strive to keep this value as accurate as possible, but make no guarantees that it will be correct.

The expected final jackpot value will be calculated by our software when a winner is found. In online modes of play, the expected final jackpot value will be displayed to the tentative winner. We reserve the right to manually check and adjust this value if the calculation is found to be inconsistent with these rules before awarding a jackpot to any winner. If an adjustment is made, full disclosure of the reason for the adjustment will be given to the winner. The jackpot will be calculated as follows:

    • Contest Revenue (CR) = The number of completed entries during the contest times the average revenue of the remaining entries (including the ones completed for the current contest, but not those for previous contests).
    • Jackpot Percentage (J%) = The percentage of the revenue generated by the contest that will go to contest jackpots. This will be set on a per contest bases, but the minimum percentage will be 70%.
    • Contest Jackpot Revenue (JR) = The revenue from the current contest times the jackpot percentage.
    • Carryover Jackpot Revenue (CJR) = The Jackpot Revenue remaining from previous contests that has yet to be awarded. We may also choose to add a positive amount to this at any time as we see fit to increase the jackpot amount (for example before the first contest starts we may add an amount so that the contest jackpot does not start at $0.00).
    • Contest Jackpot (CJ) = (CJR + JR) / 2 (rounded to the nearest penny) = The amount before taxes that the winner will receive.
    • Example: Let's say CJR = $5,000, that a user finds the great pixel on the 1,000,000th entry for this contest, there were 2,000,000 remaining entries that brought in a revenue of $95,000, and J% was 70% for this contest. Thus, CR would be 1,000,000 * ($95,000 / 2,000,000) = $47,500. JR would be ($47,500 * .7) = $33,250. Thus, the contest jackpot would be CJ = ($5,000 + $33,250)/2 = $19,125 for the 1,000,000th entry winner. CJR for the next contest would then be CJR = CJR + JR - CJ = $5,000 + $33,250 - $19,125 = $19,125, which means the next contest would start at a jackpot of $9562.50.

To summarize, at the end of each sweepstakes, approximately 1/2 (half) of the unawarded Jackpot Revenue will go into the current jackpot, and the remainder will be carried over to future jackpots.

    (top)
  13. Odds:

The odds of winning for any given entry depend on the number of pixels on the treasure field for the current sweepstakes and the number of pixels you know cannot be the Great Pixel. For example, if the treasure field is 1000x1000 pixels and you blindly try a pixel, the odds of selecting the Great Pixel are 1:1,000,000 (one in one-million). However, if you have eliminated 100 pixels as non-winners for the current sweepstakes, then the odds of winning are 1:999,900 if you intentionally avoid those 100 pixels.

    (top)
  14. Unawarded Jackpot Redistribution:

If the winning entry is found to be void, the winner is found to be ineligible, or the winner does not claim the jackpot in time, no prize will be awarded for that sweepstakes, the full value of the jackpot will be forfeited by the tentative winner, and, at the time the winning entry is voided, the full value of the forfeited jackpot will be added to the Jackpot Revenue to be awarded for the current and future sweepstakes (See Jackpot Value section for details).

    (top)
  15. Cancelled Sweepstakes Drawing:

If the sweepstakes is cancelled indefinitely for any reason, all advertisers will be refunded the full cash value of their remaining clicks, and the total sum of the current jackpot and the current initial jackpots for all future sweepstakes will be given away in a drawing. This drawing will automatically include one entry per person that successfully completed an online-for-cash entry during the last 3 months of the sweepstakes before it was cancelled (measured by day of month and time of day). Also, any person that sent a valid mail-in entry postmarked during this period and received by us no later than a week after the sweepstakes was cancelled will be considered in this drawing as well. The drawing will occur the first Monday at least 2 weeks after the sweepstakes was cancelled, and if possible, the winner will be posted at http://www.GreatPixelHunt.com. If it is not possible or practical to run the cancelled sweepstakes drawing as planned for any reason (e.g. entrant information for the last 3 months was irretrievably lost), we will seek alternative methods for redistributing the remaining value of the unawarded jackpot revenue.

    (top)
